Ramps (commonly known as spring onionswild leeks, or wild garlic) are one of the first signs that Spring is upon us. They are a North American species of wild onion that grow from the southern-most part of the Appalachian Mountains as far north as Quebec. Ramp season is short, starting from the end of February to early June. With a small white bulb and hairy root, they resemble a scallion but with more of a bold garlic-onion flavor. Because their season is short and flavor is considered a delicacy amongst chefs everywhere, the demand increases each year.

Sustainability

Motembo Foods is dedicated to being as sustainable as possible, giving back to our environment in every way we can. In doing so, we ensure that every ramp we use is used in its entirety - leaf, stem, root and all!
